This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to the core principles of videography and lighting. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of photography concepts, including:

  • Introduction to Photography: Explore the fundamental principles of photography, including exposure (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), depth of field, and white balance.
  • Types of Lenses: Learn about different types of lenses, their focal lengths, and how they impact image composition (e.g., wide-angle, telephoto, macro).
  • Composition Techniques: Master key compositional techniques, such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and symmetry, to create visually compelling and dynamic frames.
  • Aesthetics and Purpose: Understand how to employ the aesthetics of the image to effectively convey the desired message and achieve specific artistic or storytelling goals.
  • Shot Sizes: Learn to identify and utilize various shot sizes (e.g., wide shot, medium shot, close-up) to effectively tell a story and maintain visual interest.
  • Types of Lighting: Gain knowledge of different lighting techniques (e.g., natural light, artificial light, three-point lighting), their impact on mood and atmosphere, and how to effectively illuminate subjects for video.

John Yohanna is a seasoned media professional with a diverse background spanning photography, cinematography, and media production. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Cinematography and has extensive experience in various roles, including news photographer, director of photography, and media educator.

Yohanna has worked with renowned media organizations such as Video Cairo News Agency, CNC News Agency, and Qatar TV. He played a crucial role in documenting the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and has contributed to numerous prominent television programs.

He is a dedicated educator, teaching photography at both the ONA Academy and the Canadian University of Ahram. Yohanna is also the founder and director of MAP Academy, which provides training in media and arts, and MAP Production, a company specializing in program and film production.
